While I was combing the fields for firewood, a man from our village who had divorced his wife began to try to ambush me on the path. He waited for me in isolated spots and tried to catch me. When I saw him approaching, I would run away and sometimes I would choose different routes. Disappointed with my reaction, he came to my mother and told her he wanted to marry me. Because he gave my mother money for medicines, she told him to continue trying to convince me.

Dear girls and women, truly you are able; I can testify to that. When I was young in our village there were many cases of sex abuse. One day a woman was raped by a man of a neighboring village, and there was a committee of old men which was in charge of solving community problems. Women were not included in the make-up of this committee. When the committee decided the case, they (commitee) asked the accused to pay a fine equal to the amount of an evening of beers for the committee.
